Abstract
1400585 Jib cranes GALLAY SA 13 Sept 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 42427/72 Heading B8B A mobile jib crane, Fig. 1, comprises an articulated jib with a foot 3 and a head 5 pivoted together at 4. A constant length sling 14 is attached at 15 to platform 1 and to the pivot 4. A rod 8 is linked to the pin 4 and is connected at its end 11 to the jib head at 10 by a cable 9 which also passes, by way of pulley assembly 13, to a luffing winch 12 on the platform 1. As shown the jib head 5 is at an angle to the jib foot 3. Operation of the winch 12 to raise the jib head 5 brings stops 16, 17 on the foot and head jib sections 3, 5 into contact, whereupon further raising action by the winch 12 moves the two sections, now in line, as a unit (the cable 14 becoming slack). In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the pulley assembly 13 is housed within the jib foot 3, an upper pulley block (25) being fastened at the upper end of the jib foot 3 with a lower pulley block (24) being free to move as the cable 9 is actuated by the winch 12. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 the pulley assembly 13 comprises movable upper and lower pulley blocks 27, 24 each associated with a respective stop 30, 31 which stops replace the stops 15, 16. The stop 31 is adjustable in position to allow the angle between the jib foot 3 and the jib head 5 to be other than 180 degrees when they move as a unit. The length of the sling 14 may be adjustable to permit selection of the initial angle of the jib foot 3 to the platform 1.
