Abstract
786,597. Jib cranes. RUSTON-BUCYRUS, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1955 [March 24, 1955], No. 37235/55. Class 78 (4). The pivoted jib 22 is supported by guys 23, Fig. 1, which are secured to the upper end of a longitudinally extensible and retractable mast 24 pivoted to the main frame 21 adjacent the foot of the jib and held in any position by tackle 25. The mast consists of telescopic members 24a, 24b, Fig. 7, the upper of which are connected by a shaft 27 carrying a spacer 27a. The inward movement of the members 24a is limited by stops 29. When the jib is in its lowest position, Fig. 1, the point at which the tackle 25 is connected to the frame 26 is below the transverse plane through the guys 23. When the jib is in the raised position, Fig. 2, the point of connection is above this transverse plane. In a modification, Fig. 13, the mast consists of a member 60 and a member 63 which is disengageable therefrom and comprises a shaft 63a, Fig. 14, carrying sheaves 64, a spacer 65 and links 66. The ends of the shaft are engaged by yokes 67, 68 on the member 60 when the jib is lowered, but as the jib is raised, the shaft is disengaged from the mast and travels through an arc A ... G while the member 60 rests against the stop 69. In a further modification the mast is pivoted on the jib instead of on the main frame and stops are provided for limiting the outward movement of the upper mast element as well as the inward movement.
