811,260. Jib cranes; balancing. KASSBOHRER FAHRZEUGWERKE G.m.b.H., K. June 21, 1957 [June 29, 1956], No. 19529/57. Class 78 (4). The removable balance weight 11 of a mobile slewing jib crane is lifted into position to counterbalance the crane by an auxiliary hoist carried by a jib 13 oppositely directed from the hoist jib 5. In the construction illustrated the jib 13 telescopes into the frame 12 of the main crane and can lift the counterweight 11 from the chassis 1 of the vehicle so that it can be lowered to rest on a pair of traversely spaced telescoping arms 10 projecting from the slewing part of the crane. Outriggers 20 may assist in supporting the crane in use, and when not in use the jib 5 may rest on the top of the cab 21. The length of the telescoping arms 10 may be adjusted manually or automatically in accordance either with the load on the crane or with the derricking out of the jib. For example, a bight in the hoist cable may move the arms 10 against a biasing spring so that the extension of the arms 10 depends on the load raised.
