Abstract

1,103,173. Mobile tower-cranes. P. J. PINGON. 6 May, 1966 [7 May, 1965; 28 March, 1966], No. 20040/66. Heading B8B. A tower-crane 5, 6 is erected by jacking up a chassis 1, removing a tractor 19 and lowering the crane until the counterweight 8, 9 rests on the ground. After removing a peg 18, a ram 11 is contracted to raise the mast 5 to a vertical position about a pivot 10. Outriggers 2 are opened out and the ram 11 is extended to raise the counterweight to the position shown in Fig. 1 (not shown). Movement of the counterweight may be used to raise the jib or extend telescopic sections of the mast. For moving the crane over rough terrain the counterweight 8, 9 may be replaced by crawler tracks. Fig. 3 (not shown), illustrates a construction in which the movement of the counterweight (9) is effected by a winch (23) and a cable (22). Erection is as previously described. Fig. 7 (not shown), shows a construction in which the foot of the tower remains vertical during transport. The mast (37) is raised about a pivot (38) by a winch (31). Fig. 11 (not shown), illustrates a small crane in which the counterweight (9) rests on a lorry (41) and the mast (5) is erected by swinging it about a pivot (42) on an arm attached to the counterweight. When the base is touching the ground a weight of sufficient magnitude to raise the counterweight off the lorry by tilting the crane is lifted. A strut (48) is connected between the mast and the counterweight.
