Abstract

931,739. Shovelling-machines. THEW SHOVEL CO. April 13, 1962 [April 24, 1961], No. 14457/62. Class 68 (1). [Also in Group XXX] To prevent a jib 10, Fig. 2, of a mobile shovel from swinging back over the cab 30, stops 35, 36 are pivotally mounted on the jib and guided by trunnions mounted on a mast 17 so that their ends 40, 41 abut stops 42, 43 in the raised position of the jib. The trunnions 38, 39, Fig. 5, are pivoted to arms 140, 141 attached to the mast 17. The latter is telescopic and comprises inner and outer members 51, 55 and 50, 54 which are urged into extended position by springs 90, 91. To retract the mast 17 for travelling on the road the boom 10 is lowered horizontally on to a support when continued slackening of a derricking cable 13 will allow the mast 17 to rest on top of the boom and take all tension off the sheaves 16. Locking pins are now removed from holes 130, 132 Fig. 5, and the upper mast section is pulled into the lower mast section by winding in the derricking cable 13. When the mast is fully retracted it is locked by replacing the locking pins. The boom may now be raised into travelling position, Fig. 1 (not shown), by the cable 13. To raise the mast 17 the procedure is reversed, springs 90, 91 extending the sections as the cable 13 is slacked off.
