Abstract

760,067. Telescopic towers. EAGLE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. June 3, 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 16710/54. Class 20(1) A multi-tiered tower b, b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP>, pivoted to a vehicle body a on which it lies when collapsed, is raised to its erect position by one or more hydraulic rams c operated by power means on the vehicle which also operates a further ram d for raising and lowering a telescopic part b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> of the tower relative to the base part b, which latter rests on means supported on the ground. Means are also provided for levelling and stabilizing the tower. As shown, the base, part b is mounted on trunnions a<SP>1</SP> and is pivoted to two hydraulic rams c pivoted to the body a so that the rams c can raise the tower from horizontal to vertical position. When vertical, the tower is further extended by a hydraulic ram d and then part b<SP>2</SP> is raised relatively to part b<SP>1</SP> by means of cables. Rams c and d are operated by a pump driven by the vehicle engine. Lowering of the tower is controlled by automatic strangler valves. The tower is supported, when vertical, by an adjustable jack g and is stablized by struts e supported by screw jacks f and by guy ropes j.
