Abstract

1,119,508. Climbing tower cranes. ETABS. F. POTAIN & CIE. 23 June, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 28997/67. Headings B8B and B8J. A tower crane with an upper mast part A is lifted up the lift shaft of a building B under construction by a device comprising a stand 10 resting on the base of the lift shaft (or other floor) with a rigid strut 11 above which is attached an extensible strut in the form of a double-action hydraulic jack with a cylinder 14 and a ram 15 between lateral members 12, 16. The members 12, 16 respectively have retractable latches 19, 20 arranged to bear, when required, under braces 7 on the mast part A. From the position shown in Fig. 1 with latches 19 retracted and latches 20 engaged, extension of the jack raises the mast part A. Latches 19 are then engaged, latches 20 retracted and the jack retracted (Fig. 4) for a further step. When the mast part A is above the first floor 1 props 22 on an upper floor are swung into position to retain the mast part A (Fig. 8). The latches 19, 20 and the jack may then be operated to lift the stand 10 step by step up to the first floor, Figs. 10, 15 where it is mounted on a beam 26 when a further lifting cycle may begin. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 20 a wheeled tower has an upper part A lifted within a fixed lower part B1 with rungs 32, 33 arranged to co-operate with the stand and also with the upper part A, Fig. 21 (not shown).
