Abstract
1,163,616. Tower cranes. RICHIER. 10 Nov., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965], No. 50385/66. Heading B8B. A crane comprises a telescopic tower part 2 mounted on a base 4, Fig. 1, the part 2 being pivoted at 5 for swinging movement between the position shown and a vertical position, the swinging and telescopic movements of the tower part 2 being effected by a single hydraulic jack 9. The tower part 2 is mounted between two side frames 6 incorporated in a fixed lower part (3), Fig. 4 (not shown), of the tower. When the tower part 2 is to be swung to its vertical position the jack 9 is connected between pivot points 12 and 10 provided respectively on the base 4 and the part 2, and when the part 2 is to be extended the jack 9 is connected between the point 10 and another pivot point 14) provided on a bar 8 which initially rests on the base 4. The lower part (3) is completed after the part 2 has been moved to the vertical position. Pairs of support beams (16... 16c) are provided on the part (3) for co-operation with pivotally mounted latches (15, 17) on the bar 8 and the part 2, respectively. In operating, the jack 9 is extended to move the part 2 upwardly until the latches (17) engage the next-to-lowest of the beams (16... 16c) and then the jack 9 is contracted to lift the bar 8 and the latches (15) with the lowest of the bars (16. . . 16c). Further similar operations of the jack 9 extend the tower step-by-step. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the latches (17) are provided on a bar (11a) attached to the jack 9. In tower embodiment, Fig. 10 (not shown), the tower part 2 is pivoted at its base and is moved to its vertical position by an hydraulic jack (20) extending between the bar 8, which is releasably secured to the base 4 during this movement, and a pivot point (22) on the tower part 2. When the tower part 2 is to be extended the bar 8 is released and the jack is connected between the bar 8 and the point 10 on the part 2. The complete tower may be pivoted to the base.
