Abstract

965,025. Erecting folding tower-cranes. ETABLISSEMENTS F. POTAIN & CIE. July 25, 1962 [July 31, 1961; Oct. 13, 1961], No. 28529/62. Heading B8B. A folding tower crane is erected by attaching the lifting hook to the base 1, Fig. 2, with the crab 9 near the outer end of the jib and by means of the lifting cable 15 maintaining the jib horizontal against a tendency to rise caused by a counterweight 7 whilst the tower 4 is raised to a vertical position by a winch 10 and cable 11. In a first embodiment the load hoisting winch is locked and as the tower is raised the crab 9 is displaced inwardly to maintain the jib horizontal. In a second embodiment, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the crab 9 is held near the outer tip of the jib and the load hoisting winch is operated to pay out the hoisting cable thereby holding the jib horizontal as the tower is raised. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, the lifting hook is attached to the base 1 as before and the tower is partly raised so that the counter-jib 23 can be swung out from under the tower and then lowered so that the counter-jib reaches the position shown in Fig. 10. In this position a cable 29 is connected between an upright 27 and the counter jib 23 and the jib is connected to the upright 27 by a tie-rod 28. The tower is now raised by the winch 10 and the jib is maintained horizontal by either of the methods described above. During this step a post 6 rises progressively and a pulley 25 engages the cable 29. At the end of this movement a locking hook 30, Fig. 13, rides up over a pin 27a and drops down to engage it thereby uniting parts 6 and 27. After the parts have been locked together by conventional means, and the hook 20 freed from the base, the telescopic part of the tower is raised. The cranes described in the first and second embodiments may also have telescopic towers.
