Abstract

1,020,608. Self-erecting mobile tower cranes. LAWRENCE-COLEBROOK (CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT) CO. Ltd. Aug. 21, 1964, No. 34234/64. Heading B8B. [Also in Division B7] A mobile tower crane 1, Fig. 1, is erected by a hydraulic ram 16 and is transported with the jib overlying the tower in a horizontal plane and with the outer adjacent parts of the two folded about pivots 9, 12. To erect the crane outriggers 4 are drawn out and jacks 5 screwed down on to blocks 6. The portions of the tower between 9 and 10 and of the jib between 10 and 12 are unfolded and pinned in position. Tower and jib are next raised into a vertical position about a pivot 7 by the ram 16. The latter is now moved into the position shown in full lines in which it hoists the jib by means of a cable. Fig. 6 shows a crane mounted on wheels 13 rather than on a tractor. The tractor may be removed, Fig. 7, and the crane supported on a trestle 15. Ballast is required when the tractor is removed.
