987,328. Erecting mobile tower cranes. ETABLISSEMENTS WEITZ S.A.-SOC: LES FILS DE JULES WEITZ-CHANTIERS & ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTION DE LYON -WEITZ, REUNIES. July 10, 1963 [July 30, 1962], No. 27412/63. Heading B8B. A mobile tower crane has a tower mast 4 pivotally connected at 5 to a carrying frame 3 and jib 6 pivoted at 7 to the mast. The arrangement is such that in the fully folded condition the centre of gravity of the assembly lies between the pivot 5 and the outer end of the jib so that when retaining means are released the tip of the jib tends, as shown, to engage the ground 2, and the mast 4 tends to move to its erected position. Operation of one of the driving mechanisms such as the lifting blocks 8 then tends to erect the mast 4 fully and then to raise the jib 6 to its horizontal operating position. A modification alters the position of the pivot 5.
