Abstract

798,547. Collapsible tower cranes. CHANTIERS & ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTION DE LYON. Nov. 22, 1955 [Feb. 21, 1955], No. 33488/55. Class 78 (4). A jib crane with a telescoping tower 2, 3, 4 has a counter-jib 13 which folds against the face of the tower which is lowermost when the tower is subsequently lowered about a pivot 2, while the jib 12, 12a, which carries a hoisting carriage 16, folds against the opposite face of the tower. As illustrated the jib is in two parts 12, 12a, hinged together at 15 and supported by a tackle 19 from the upper end of the tower. Struts 20 linking the tower to a rail chassis 5 automatically erect the tower as its lower end 2 is slid forwardly. The counter-jib 13, which folds upwardly against the tower, can be locked in its folding position or can be released to rest on the gound until it is raised by a tie 22 as the mast is raised. Axles carrying road wheels can be secured to the chassis 5 and to the slewing head 10 of the tower when the crane is to be towed by road.
