Abstract
805,398. Mobile collapsible jib cranes. PINGON, P. J. May 17, 1957 [March 13, 1956], No. 7858/56. Class 78 (4). A transportable crane comprising a telescopic mast pivoted for lowering into a horizontal position on a chassis, is characterized in that the inner and upper element of the mast is longer than the outer and lower element and is projectable through the open lower end of the outer element when the mast is in the horizontal position. As shown, in Fig. 1, the upper mast element 7 projects through the left-hand or lower end of the lower mast element 6, which is pivoted at 5 to a wheeled chassis 1, the front wheels 3 of which are provided with pneumatic tyres 4 when the crane is being towed by a vehicle 8. To erect the crane, the tyres 4 are first removed and the wheels 2 and 3 are placed on rails 24, Fig. 3. The mast element 7 is then moved until its lower end is flush with that of the element 6, using a winch 23 acting through a cable 20 anchored to a fixed trestle 21 and a cable 16 fixed at 17 and 32. The two mast elements are then locked together at 25 and the mast raised to the Fig. 3 position using the winch 23, after which the outer jib element 11 is attached and the mast fully extended, after removal of the pin 25. The jib is then raised by a cable 27, Fig. 4, and locked in position, leaving the winch 23 free, if desired, to take the hoisting cable 28. The mast may be slewable on a platform mounted on the chassis 1.
