Abstract

990,678. Erecting mobile tower-cranes. A. W. HOBBS. June 1, 1962 [June 1, 1961], No. 11553/63. Divided out of 990,677. Heading B8B. The tower 7, Fig. 1, of a mobile tower-crane is raised about a pivot 8 from a horizontal position, in which it is transported, to a vertical position by a screw 12 driven by a motor 13 which moves a nut-member 14, Fig. 3 along a guide 14c, the weight of the tower being supported by wheels 16 attached to both the member 14 and struts 15 pivoted on a base member at 10. The jib 30, 30a, Fig. 5, and counter-jib 34 are mounted on a securing ring supported by an inner telescopic tower member 37. The counter-jib 34 is raised by a rope 47 which is attached to a point 55 and passes over pulleys 45, 44, 46 to the nut-member 14 which is then drawn down by the screw 12. Jib portion 30a is lowered to rest on the ground from a folded transport position by a rope 53, Fig. 7, which is taken from a winch 50 round pulleys and a trolley 51 as shown in a continuous line. The broken line shows the path of the lifting rope 53 in use. Next, the rope 47, Fig. 5, is attached to a point 56 and passes over pulleys 45, 44, 46 to the member 14, downward movement of which raises the jib until the two portions are aligned. After the two portions have been locked together the complete jib is raised to a horizontal position ready for use.
