Abstract

907,549. Tower cranes. FOENETER S.A. March 7, 1960 [March 7, 1959; March 3, 1960], No. 8040/60. Class 78 (4). The jib 20, Fig. 4, of a tower crane, and a load lifting platform 61, are both movable up and down the tower which comprises identical units 19. As described, the jib 20, Fig. 3, carries a pulley 28 mounted on a carriage 29 which is moved along the jib by an electric motor 31 and an endless cable 30. A jib support 35 fits over the tower and has guides which slide on the uprights of the units 19. The jib may be slewed, the support 35 having a lower bearing - ring 52, Fig. 6, and a similar upper bearing-ring. The lower ring is attached to a frame 41 of the support 35 by pivots 53 about which the frame 41 can oscillate to a limited extent. The jib is slewed by a pinion 55 connected to a driving-motor 54 through a gear train. Upper and lower sets of guide-rollers 58 are provided. The lifting platform 61, Fig. 4, may be fitted to any side of the tower for vertical sliding movement thereon and is driven by a motor 62 if the jib is fitted to the tower or alternatively by a motor mounted directly on the tower. More than one lifting platform may be provided. To increase the height of the tower a new unit 19 is brought to a position below the jib 20 by the platform 61 and then lifted into position on top of the tower by a small crane 63, Fig. 5, slewably mounted on the jib support 35. The new element is bolted in place and the ends of the cables of hoists 64 are attached to lugs 25 of the new element. The jib may now be raised by the hoists 64 to the top of the extended tower. The jib is prevented from inadvertently descending by wedging members incorporated in the guides which slide on the tower uprights.
