Abstract

925,846. Collapsible tower cranes. FOENETER S.A. June 16, 1961 [June 17, 1960], No. 21800/61. Class 78 (4). A crane comprises a tower built up from sections, a jib, and a hoist, both of which may be moved vertically and independently of one another over the tower, the jib being formed in several sections which allow fitting it on the tower through a lateral assembly of its sections, without it being necessary to dismantle the tower. The hoist is conventionally mounted on any of the four sides of the tower for vertical sliding and the jib comprises arms 20, 27, Fig. 4, which are pivoted to a support 35. This support comprises two lateral halves which are assembled round the tower and bolted together by flanges 81, Fig. 9. Shoes 40 abut vertical members 21 of the tower as the jib moves up and down. Upper and lower frames 41 have rollers 58 which engage rings 80 as the jib slews. The lower frame 41 rests on the lower ring 80 through pivots 53 fitted with ballbearings. In a modification, Fig. 11, the lower frame 41 rests on the ring 80 through pivots 87 carrying arms 88 with rollers 89. In the embodiment of Fig. 14, the jib is raised by a motor 90 which drives two drums 91 on which are wound cables 92 which pass over pulleys 93 on top of the tower and are attached to the jibcarrying support. In a further embodiment, the tower may be attached to the building being erected by members 96, Fig. 16, whilst the jib is being raised. A removable section, Fig. 18, permits mounting of the jib on the tower and raising it, whilst rollers 95 replace some of shoes 40 which have to be removed to allow the jib to be raised. A motor 31, Fig. 4, moves a carriage 29 along the jib and a motor 34 raises the load. The tower sections may be added or removed by an auxiliary crane 82 which fits on the jib, or, if the jib is not mounted on the tower, by a crane 83, Fig. 5, carried by a hoist 61. To prevent tools &c. being dropped between a hoist and the floor at which unloading is taking place, a plate 84, Fig. 7, mounted on a spindle 85 is urged into a bridging position when the hoist platform is level with the floor. The hoists may be fitted with safety rails for carrying workmen.
