Abstract

971,660. Guided platform hoists. CIVIL & CIVIC (PTY.) Ltd. July 23, 1962 [July 24, 1961], No. 28179/62. Heading B8H. A hoist for moving loads between floors of a building under construction comprises a pair of I-section guide posts 6, which are detachably secured to the building and on which a carriage having a load platform 20 is guided, the arrangement being such that the carriage can be moved along the guide posts when the guide posts are secured to the building and the guide posts can be raised and lowered when the carriage is secured to a floor of the building. Each post 6 is engaged by shoes 12, each comprising a base 13 bolted to a floor of the building and provided with side walls 14 which engage behind a plate 18 welded to the post and with a roller 16 bearing on the plate 18. The post is locked to the shoe by a pin 30 passing through the side walls 14 and through lugs 32 welded to the plate 18. The carriage is provided with guide rollers 29, engaging the flange 24 of the post and with a motor and reduction gearing 22 driving a shaft 25 carrying pinions 27 which mesh with a rack 7 provided on the outer face of the post. In order to raise the posts 6, beams resting on a floor are inserted into openings 37 in the carriage and are secured in position on the floor by means of struts, Fig. 2 (not shown). The posts are then released from the shoes 12 by removing the pins 30 and are raised by actuation of the motor on the carriage and then secured to the building in their raised position. In a modification (not shown), the rack 7 is replaced by a chain fixed at its ends to the top and bottom of the post and passing round a drive sprocket and guide sprockets on the carriage. In a further modification (not shown), the carriage is moved by means of chains and a double-acting hydraulic ram. In a third modification (not shown), a hoist for raising and lowering the carriage is mounted centrally on a truss spanning the upper ends of the posts.
