Abstract

1438727 Propelling elevators A F SIMS and C SIMS 15 Jan 1975 [10 Dec 1973] 57203/73 Heading B8L A hoist comprises a mast along which a load carrier T is movable by a cable 12, which at its end remote from the carrier is wrapped around a pair of vertically spaced pulley blocks 9 and 10 vertically displaceable relative to each other by an hydraulic ram 7 to take up and pay out the cable to move the carrier T. The ram 7 may be single or double acting, or a plurality of rams can be used in parallel to one another and suitably timed in operation. The cable 12 is guided over a mast top pulley 11 intermediate its length. The mast, comprising parallel spaced channel elements 1 between which the ram or rams are secured, is mounted on a base frame 3 having levelling jacks 4, the carrier T being supported on a support cantilevered out from the mast and rollable along the elements 1. The carrier support includes a mast engaging catch gear normally held out of engagement with the mast by the tension in the hoisting cable 12. The hydraulic ram or rams may be operated from any position along the mast by an operating rod 24 extending the length of the mast and being manually axially movable, and also movable by the carrier engaging end stops on the rod 24.
