[Also in Division B1] In a hoist for use during erection of a building comprising a pair of tubular guide rails 1, which are formed in sections 3, Fig. 2, which are connected by cross-members 13 secured to projections 14 on the rails, a skip 30, Fig. 8, is pivotally mounted about an axle 29 on a lifting frame which is guided by rollers 26 on the rails 1 and which is raised by a winch. Fig. 1 (not shown). The skip is tipped on engagement of arms 31, Fig. 8, between rollers 20, 21, Fig. 7, mounted on brackets 19 secured to removable angle bars on the rails. The rails are supported on a base 2 and are secured to the building wall by rods 18 connected to the angle bars. In a modification, Fig. 15, the lifting frame 11 supports a tipping cradle 39 provided with rollers 44, 45 for supporting an open-ended container 35 and with rollers 46, 47, 48 which frictionally engage both the container and rails 49, 49<SP>1</SP> to rotate the container during raising and lowering of the lifting frame. Catch-gear.-The hoisting rope passes round a pulley 24, Fig. 13, mounted on a beam 50 which is vertically movable in slots in brackets 51 secured to the top member 23 of the lifting frame 11. If the hoisting rope breaks springs 55 raise members 54, which are connected to the beam 50 by cables 52 passing round pulleys 53, thereby urging wedges on the members 54 between the guide rails 1 and the lift frame guide rollers 26.
