Abstract

1,247,658. Extending tower cranes. J. NOLY. 10 April, 1970 [11 April, 1969], No. 17165/70. Heading B8B. A tower crane comprises base, intermediate and top masts 1, 2, 3 transported telescoped in the horizontal position. On site the crane is erected by (i) pivoting the masts 1, 2, 3 about pivot 9; (ii) extending masts 2, 3 jointly out of mast 1 using cable 11; (iii) using jib foot 6 as a strut to hold mast 3 aloft, Fig. 2, while mast 2 is retracted; (iv) pinning the top of mast 2 to the bottom of mast 3 and extending mast 2; and (v) pivoting the jib 6, 8 into position, Fig. 5. The tower may be extended by adding a wrap-round extension section 22 to the top of mast 2, and essentially repeating steps (iii) and (iv). A further extension section (231, Fig. 15 (not shown), may be similarly added above the section 22.
