Abstract

1,217,843. Erecting cables; insulators. SIMON ENG. DUDLEY Ltd., and CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 14 Nov., 1968 [17 Nov., 1967; 22 April, 1968], Nos. 52502/67 and 18883/68. Heading H2C. A lifting structure for use in maintaining or erecting power lines includes a boom 10, Fig. 1, formed at least in part by nested insulating elements 25, Fig. 3, having sheds 26a and forming voids 27. The elements are secured together by adhesive cement and may be of oval, elliptical, triangular, square or rectangular cross-section. The boom may carry a clamp, a hook (Fig. 7), a winch (Fig. 8) or a working platform or cage 17, Fig. 1, which can be controlled in position by means of rods 20 including sledded insulators. The boom may be articulated as shown, or longitudinally extensible (Fig. 9) or a telescopic tower structure (Fig. 10).
