Abstract

676,997. Portable shelters. LUCAS, R. Jan. 16, 1950, No. 1061/50. Class 20(i). A portable shelter comprises two horizontal sections 1, 10 forming the floor and roof respectively, and side walls pivoted to the edges of at least one of the sections or to upstanding flanges thereon, the side walls being horizontally subdivided into mutually interpivoted portions 4, 5 and 15; 16 in the case of the longitudinal and transverse walls respectively, and means being provided for hoisting the roof. The portions 4, 5 and 15, 16 are hinged together at 6 and 18 respectively, the portions 4 being hinged at 30 to flanges 2 fixed to the floor 1, and the portions 5 being hinged at 9 to the roof 10. The transverse portions 15 are similarly hinged at 14 to flanges 3, but the portions 16 are fixed by hooks and eyes to the roof 10. In its collapsed state the structure resembles a box, roof flanges 11 engaging the floor flanges 2, 3, and it is erected by pulling on a cable 24, which extends from a point 22 on a pair of braces 19, 19a to an opening 27 in the floor section 1, so as to straighten the braces 19, 19a. Alternatively the cable may pass within a hollow exterior post, situated at the middle of the longitudinal side of the shelter, and then extend over a sheave at the top of the post and down to the roof where it is fixed, see Fig. 8 (not shown).
