Abstract
1,102,553. Erecting aerial masts. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 13, Sept., 1965 [26, Oct., 1964], No. 43472/64. Heading E1B. In an aerial mast comprising a plurality of similar sections interfitting end to end (only a section 2 and part of an adjoining section 3 being shown), each section is slidable upwardly through a guide structure 7 supported by a tripod 8 and incorporating pivoted locking cams, Fig. 2 (not shown), preventing downward movement. The mast may thus be erected by feeding successive sections from below through the structure 7, and the structure 7 and tripod 8 then form the base of the mast. Release catches are provided to retract the locking cams when desired. The topmost section may carry an aerial dish or array, and have attached guy cables stored in drums on the structure 7. As shown each section 2 comprises three tubes 4 spaced by triangular plates 5, successive sections interfitting through spikes 6.
