Abstract
1,261,585. Tower cranes. RICHIER. 20 May, 1969, [21, May, 1968], No. 25673/69. Heading B8B. A tower crane capable of being increased in height comprises two portions B, C with a crane head 4 with a jib 5 and counter-balancing jib 6 carried on the upper portion C. Each portion is made up of structural sections, portion B comprising identical sections 7 (a, b, c, d) while portion C comprises a unit 8 (a<SP>1</SP>, b 1 , c<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>1</SP>) and identical units 9 (e, f, g, h). The unit 8 is a sliding fit in the units 7 and the method of erection is to assemble a single base unit 7 on to a base platform 1 on wheels 2 running on a track 3 and arrange the unit 8 with an associated cross-piece 12 and jack 13 therein, the unit 8 being surmounted by a unit 9 carrying a unit 18 and slidable framework 17: A new unit 7 may now be added on top of the base unit 7 and around the unit 8 and the unit 8 (and all above) jacked up by stages until another-unit 7 may be added. This is continued until the portion B is of a desired height. Portion C may be extended in a similar fashion, but, as shown, unit 18, carrying all above it, is displaced on wheels 19 to enable a supplementary unit 9<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, to be added to the highest unit 9. The sliding framework 17 may then be lifted up the unit 9<SP>1</SP> and the procedure repeated. In this way cranes with sections B, C each up to 40 metres in height may be constructed. For still higher cranes, up to 120 metres in height overall a portion A, similar to B but of larger section may be included below B, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown).
