Abstract

1,205,648. Alternative road/rail wheels. ETABS. F. POTAIN & CIE. 28 Sept., 1967 [28 Sept., 1966; 11 Aug., 1967], No. 44098/67. Heading B7D. [Also in Division B8] A folding crane (see Division B8) has road wheels 130 so that it can be connected as a semi-trailer to a tractor 119, and has rail bogies (or alternatively road wheels) on folding arms 143, 144 by which the crane can run on rails 145. The crane is connected to the tractor by a beam 120 (as shown) or by other connections (Figs. 6-9, not shown) between the tractor and the base 102, mast 105 or jib 106 of the crane. In operation, the arms 143, 144 of the chassis are pivoted to the Fig. 12 position, and the mast 105 is allowed to move so that rollers 111 run between tracks 113, 114 and links 122, 133 pivot to lower the chassis 101. The bogie 131 carrying the wheels 130 is removed during erection of the mast. To facilitate reconnecting the bogie when the mast is lowered, a cable (139, Fig. 15, not shown) depending from the mast is hooked into an aperture (141) in the bogie and the mast is raised sufficiently to align bracket (150) with the base 102.
