Abstract

1,151,276. Overhead travelling cranes. WELLMAN MACHINES Ltd. 19 March, 1968 [24 May, 1967], No. 24072/67. Heading B8B. An overhead travelling crane comprises a bridge with a carriage 11 at each end. Each carriage 11 has a bogie 12 at each end providing a bogie 12 at each corner of the bridge. Each bogie 12 comprises a beam 22 pivoted at 23 to the associated carriage 11. Hydraulic jacks 39, 40 are mounted one at each end of the beam 22. Should one of set 18 to 21 of wheels be damaged or otherwise require attention jack 39 is extended so as to raise carriage 11 and thus the pivot 23. This results in set 18 to 21 of wheels being lifted from track 13, as shown, so that the crane can be moved to a maintenance station without using the elevated wheels 18 to 21.
