Abstract

A mobile jib crane comprises a chassis (1) having axles (2, 3) provided with wheels (2', 3'). By operating hydraulic rams (7), the jib (5) can be lowered such that the jib contacts the ground (9) via a support means (8), and by continued operation past such position the wheels (2') of the axle (2) are raised above the ground (see Figure 2). The axle (2) is telescopic, whereby once its wheels (2') have been raised above the ground (9) the distance between them can be increased to enhance the stability of the crane when the jib (5) is thereafter raised to a normal working position. The axle (3) is preferably also telescopic and the spacing between its wheels (3') can in this case be similarly varied after rotating the jib through 180 DEG by rotating a superstructure (4) on which the jib (5) is mounted. <IMAGE>
