Abstract

1486350 Container traffic STEADMAN CONTAINERS Ltd 2 Dec 1975 [2 Jan 1975] 49427/75 Heading B8Q A vehicle for transporting and handling containers or other long loads which vehicle is adjustable in length to position cranes at each end of a platform opposite the ends of the container wherein each crane comprises a mast 26 pivotal at 30 on a base 28 by a jack 32 and an arm 40 pivotable about the free end 35 of the mast by a jack 42. The arm 40 has an extension 54 actuated by a jack 56. A spreader beam 58 is suspended from the extension 54 by chains 60 from a pivoted plate 61 so that the beam remains horizontal. Stabilizers (68), (70) at the front and 72, 74 at the rear are extended and lowered to a supporting position, Figs. 3, 5, by jacks 80. From the inoperative transport position, Fig. 2, the various jacks are actuated to a position, Fig. 3, in which twist locks 62 on the beams 58 can engage the corner castings 104 at the top of container frame 99 so that the container can be lifted and moved on to the ground at the other side of the vehicle, on to the vehicle itself for transport, or on to the top of another container at the side of the vehicle, Fig. 5.
