Abstract

1,179,219. Arrangement of ships' cranes. E. STAG. 19 Feb., 1968 [1 March, 1967], No. 7934/68. Heading B7S. [Also in Division B8] A ship gantry crane runs on rails extending longitudinally of the ship on rails secured below the upper deck. Below the upper deck 1 rails 2 are supported on brackets 3 on ship frames 4 and on a centre bulkhead 5. A trolley 6 having a hoisting hook 12 is controlled from a cab 10. The rails supporting the trolley for movement on the gantry may be above the rails 2 or supported below them on lattice girders 13. Tween deck 7 may be hinged as shown to allow access to lower decks. Where there is no central bulkhead the gantry extends from side to side of the ship. When a hatchway interrupts the central bulkhead rail arms may be hinged to the hatch frame to be swung out and bolted together to allow the trolley past the hatch. The cargo may be moved through a side opening 9 by running the trolley on rails of a fixed arm 8.
