Abstract

1330304 Cargo ships; hatch covers MARINE & INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 8 Dec 1970 [10 Dec 1969] 60295/69 Headings B7A and B7S A cargo ship has a longitudinal bulkhead 3, which may be hollow to afford a gangway, extending from the upper level of the holds and of a height such that with folding decks 7, 8 the ship may be used for e.g. bulk grain (with decks raised) or for e.g. containers or vehicles (with decks lowered as Fig. 7). Each hold has two large openings (Fig. 2) which are closed partly by the decks 7, 8 and partly by transverse panels 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, 10, 10<SP>1</SP> hinged together in pairs to collapse accordian fashion one against the other panels 9, 10 being hinged to bulkheads 1, 2. The panels 9<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>1</SP> may run on rollers which engage rails and may be operated by a cable and winch, while tracks are provided at the sides of the upper deck to accomodate a travelling gantry crane.
