Abstract

To transport very large loads 5 which are too great to be stowed in its hold, a dockship is equipped with craft deck 13, between the port and starboard double sidewalls, on which one or more platform cars 14 can travel to carry such a large load from a ramp 21 extended between the ship and a quay 20. Rows of jack dollies 11 which travel on roll tracks 8 on the double sidewalls are used to transfer the load between the platform car and forward hatch covers which form a deck on which the load is stowed. The dockship has a large unobstructed hold extending aft from a forepeak bulkhead to a stern gate for the transport of smaller dry or wet cargo and a gantry crane which travels along the sidewalls. The deck 13 may be vertically adjustable. During loading and unloading the ship is moored by a spud arranged in the fore part. <IMAGE>
