Abstract

1490610 Loading ships WINSEMIUS A 8 Dec 1975 [16 Dec 1974] 50301/75 Heading B8E [Also in Division B7] To facilitate the carriage and loading of heavy cargo on the weather deck 20 of a ship, a pair of longitudinally extending beams 3 are arranged one on either side of hatches 4 with their upper surfaces above the tops of the hatch coamings and a plurality of transverse beams 5 are releasedly secured to the longitudinal beams 3 to support the heavy cargo. For loading or unloading the cargo, further beams (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) on a loading/unloading installation are connected to the adjacent ends of the beams 5, the ship is ballasted so that the longitudinal beam 3 nearest the installation is below the transverse beams 5 (whose other ends are secured to the other longitudinal beam 5 on the ship) and cannot contact them through the ship moving during the loading/unloading operations. The cargo is then moved between the ship and the installation on one or more carriages running on the transverse beams 5 and the further beams.
