Abstract

1,025,017. Overhead travelling cranes. PACIFIC COAST ENGINEERING CO. June 22, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 25644/64. Heading B8B. In a gantry-type crane for handling cargo containers 60, Fig. 2, in which a travelling bridge assembly 27 moves over parallel spaced rails 23 means are provided for stabilizing the container holding means 101, 102, when raised, to prevent swinging. The hoisting system 57 is mounted on a turn-table 61 having four downwardly projecting beams 113 engageable in pockets 115 on the container support member 101. The turn-table 61 carries a single hoisting drum having four cables running over four separate pulleys on the support member 101 and returning to fixed points on the turn-table so that the cargo containers have a four-point support. U-shaped side frames 11 with vertical arms 7, 9 are provided to support the rails 23 on horizontal beams 3, 5. An operator's cabin 121 is mounted on a cantilever extension 125 of the bridge assembly 27 and disposed adjacent to and on the outer side of the main girder 3. The position of the cabin 121 and the spacing between the vertical supports 7, 9 is such that the cargo container may be rotated into alignment with carriages &c. in any position along the rails 23.
