Abstract

1,193,605. Transporters. C. M. PONSEN, and C. CRAIG. 3 Jan., 1969 [21 Aug., 1968], No. 650/69. Heading B8B. Cargo-handling apparatus for a ship S comprises a frame 11 mounted on a pair of rails 13, 15 for movement of the apparatus longitudinally of the deck of the ship S and supporting an endless track 17. A plurality of hoisting devices 19 are carried on the track 17 for sequential movement into position over hatchway 21 for retrieving cargo C from the hold of the ship and disposition thereof on the dock 25, or vice versa. Each hoisting device 19 has a drive motor (not shown) and a hoist motor (not shown) powered from the ship's generators and controlled by an operator in a cab 77. Trucks 33, 35, 37, 39 have wheels (not shown) which roll on the respective tracks 13, 15 and may also be powered from the ship's generators. A shunt track 71 is provided. Loop portions 51, 53 of the track 17 may be folded up, Fig. 4 (not shown), when the apparatus is not in use.
