[Class 78 (iv)] Relates to a transport crane of the kind comprising a main supporting structure, an auxiliary structure superposed thereon and having its vertical axis offset from the vertical axis of the main structure, an outboard runway extending beyond the main structure, a carriage movable along the runway and traversing and lifting means operatively connected to the carriage to traverse the latter and to lift a load suspended from the carriage. According to the invention the runway is slewably mounted on the main structure and is so arranged that the carriage can be traversed along the runway from end to end and the load discharged at any point along the travel of the carriage. In the embodiment shown in Figs 1, 2 the transporter comprises frames 12, 14 and a runway 26 for a carriage 28 supported from a frame 18 rotatably mounted by bearings 20, 22 in the frame 14. The carriage is traversed by cables 30, 32 passing round sheaves 34, 36 to winch drums 38, 40, and supports a grab bucket 42 attached to the cable 32. The runway is hinged at 50 to the frame 18 and when not in use may be swung to the vertical dotted line position 52 by a rope 55 connected to a winch 54. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the runway 26 is suspended from carriages 64, 66 running in arcuate tracks 60, 62 on the main frame 12, the centre of curvature of these tracks being at the vertical centre line of the frame.
