Abstract

1,094,650. Travelling hoists; securing pulley blocks. DOMINION BRIDGE CO. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1965 [Aug. 31, 1964], No. 946/65. Heading B8B. A power-hoist comprises a main hook block 33, 34, Fig. 2, and an auxiliary hook block 37, 38 for alternative use on the same hoist rope. Either of the blocks is alternatively anchored as by latches 40, 41 on fixed parts 32, 39 of the travelling carriage &c. while the other hook block is in use. The main sheaves 24, 26 and auxiliary sheaves 28, 29 are reeved by a common hoist rope 22 attached at both ends to the hoist drum 21 and looped for return over equalizing pulleys 43 or a balancing arm. A power-operated system, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), for controlling the latches 40, 41 is described whereby over-centre counterweights (82), Fig. 7 (not shown), add additional clamping force to the latches and in which one set is released when the other is engaged. Modified pulley arrangements are described for different load ratios of the main and auxiliary blocks.
