Abstract

763,039. Overhead travelling hoists. PICCINI, A. Sept. 7, 1954, No. 25900/54. Classes 78 (2), 78 (4) and 78 (5). An electric hoist runs on a monorail 1, Figs. 4 and 5, supported by trestles 2 of inverted-V form and extending beyond one of the trestles. As illustrated, the rail 1 is suspended from the trestles 2 by means of clamps 3 and similar clamps are used to connect to the rail 1 to struts 21 bracing the rail and the trestles. The drum 9, Fig. 1, of the hoist is driven through gearing 29, 30, 8 from an electric motor 7 controlled by a switch 11 operated by a handle 12 which also operates cams (not shown) which release an external shoe brake 14 normally urged to brake a flywheel 15 on the shaft of the electric motor 7 by springs 16. A further lever 13 releases the brake 14 without operating the motor 7. A lever 18 can be engaged by the load block 17 to operate the handle 12 and thus limit the extent to which the load may be raised. The hoisting cable 10 after passing under the load sheave, is secured to a spring shock absorber 19, Fig. 5. Rollers 6, Fig. 1, engaging the web of the rail 1 may be adjusted laterally.
