Abstract

1,101,890. Tower cranes. RICHIER. 30 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965; 15 Nov., 1966], No. 58461/66. Heading B8B. The counterbalance weight of a tower crane is movable along a jib 4 between a remote position and a position adjacent the tower 2 to reduce the out of balance forces on the crane when the tower is raised. The carriage 6 for the counterweight is connected via a cable 10a, 10b to a drum 10, similarly the hoist saddle 5 is connected via a cable 9a, 9b to a drum 9 for movement along a jib 3. The drums 9, 10 are driven by a motor 7 through clutches (not shown) whereby the counterweight and the hoist saddle may be moved as and when required. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the drum 9 of the hoist saddle is connected directly to the winch and is permanently driven thereby. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) one cable (22), (24) interconnects the hoist saddle (17) and the carriage (18) and is driven by a winch drum arrangement (19), (20). The carriage (36) is provided with a clamp device (27) for releasably engaging the cable (22), (24) as and when required to move said carriage. The clamp device (27) comprises a pair of jaws (26) urged apart by springs (29) and clamped to the cable by bolts (28). In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the hoist saddle (35) is driven by a winch (37) through a cable (39) and the counterweight carriage (36) is fixed to a cable (42) extending around pulleys (43), (44), the pulley (44) being positioned midway along the main jib (33). The saddle hoist (35) is provided with a clamp device (45), similar to that of the previous embodiment, whereby to releasably engage the cable (42) and move the carriage (36) as and when required.
