Abstract

1408881 Elevators LINDEN-ALIMAK AB 27 March 1974 [6 April 1973] 13549/74 Headings B8B and B8L In a rack and pinion elevator in which the hoisting machinery to drive the load carrier 3 along a variable length tower 1 is arranged in the load carrier 3, the latter is partly balanced by a counterweight 4 via a cable 5 passing over a pulley 6 at the upper end of the tower, the counterweight 4 is displaceably attachable to the cable 5 at arbitrary places along its length and the cable 5 extends to the lower portion of the path of motion of the load carrier 3 on the counterweight side of the tower. A driven pinion within the carrier 3 engages a rack formed on all sections 2 connectable together to form the tower, the upper pulley 6 being supported on either a sliding form 11 above the tower top, or the top section of the tower. The cable 5 depending from the pulley 6, passes through a passage in the counterweight 4, to a tensioning drum 7 at the tower base, which drum 7 is provided with a constant torsional moment from a motor through an hydraulic coupling. The passage in the counterweight 4 is formed by tapered jaws 9 movable through rollers 20 within a tapered aperture in the counterweight, under the control of screw-threaded hub 15 reacting between a holder 16 on the counterweight and cap springs 17 below the jaws 9. The hub 15 is apertured permitting the cable 5 to pass therethough. To wove the counterweight along the cable 5, the counterweight is locked to the tower 1, the counterweight is then disconnected from the cable 5 whilst the load carrier is re-positioned. Power is supplied to the hoist machinery by a power cable 10.
