Abstract

1357935 Hauling; hoisting ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 13 Oct 1971 [14 Oct 1970] 47626/71 Heading B8B A driving means for a cable 14 comprises an endless belt 9 extending around two pulleys 3, 6, the belt applying a gripping action to the cable as it passes over the pulley 3 and releasing the gripping action as the belt passes around the pulley 6. The belt which is V-sectioned is provided with a cable engaging groove open to the outer periphery and the belt receiving V- grooves in the pulleys 3, 6, are dimensioned such that the belt groove is fully open as the belt passes around the pulley 6 and is closed up to grip the cable as the belt passes around the pulley 3. This arrangement provides sufficient grip between the pulley 3 and the cable 14 so that only one loop at the cable is required in use of the hoist arrangement shown, in which the belt 9 supporting the lower pulley 6 which through a bifurcated member 13 supports the fixed end of the cable 14, the pulley 3 being driven by a motor 1. In the embodiment of Figs. 4 and 7 (not shown) the belt is formed in two parallel endless parts which are parted in passing around the lower pulley and are brought together to grip the cable over the upper pulley. In the embodiment of Figs. 5 and 8 (not shown) the cable is deflected clear of the belt as it passes around the lower pulley.
