Abstract

1470177 Grippers FOXALL PALMER Ltd 8 March 1974 10620/74 Heading B8H A grab for gripping an object such as a roll of newsprint 25 comprises a pair of angled gripping devices 10 which are interconnected solely by means of a pair of chains 22, 24 whose outer ends are attached to a ring 23 which is adapted to be engaged by a lift hoist or crane (not shown), the chain 22 passing about one surface 19B of a double pulley 19 on the left-hand gripping device 10 and extending to and being enclosed on a lug 18 on the right-hand gripping device 10, while the chain 24 passes about one surface 19B of a double pulley on the right-hand gripping device and is anchored to a lug 18 on the lefthand gripping device. On applying a lifting force to the ring 23 the chain 22 lifts the left-hand gripping device while pulling the right-hand gripping device inwardly into engagement with the roll 25, while simultaneously chain 24 lifts the right-hand gripping device and pulls the left-hand gripping device inwardly.
