Abstract

258,676. Jones, E. P., and Middleton, J. H. June 29, 1925. Lifting-dogs.-Sets of gripping arms C are carried on shafts E journaled on a frame A, Fig. 1, which is suspended from an overhead crane by two or more ropes B, and the arms are actuated to grip and release the load by means of an electric motor F through gearing g and a vertical screw G engaging a nut H. The nut His connected to the arms C by links H<1>, h<1> which are pivoted on guide arms h<2> connected with one another bv a slotted link H<2>. In a modification, Fig. 4, the shafts E. carrying the gripping arms are journaled in a secondary frame A<1> which can be rotated about a vertical axis in the main frame A by a motor F<1>. The nut H is connected by links h to bars h<2> extending between adjacent gripping arms C. In both constructions, the frame may be provided with a swivelling load-hook in addition to the grab arms.
