387,888. Jib cranes. DIJK, M. VAN, 6, Arnhemescheweg, Amersfoort, Holland. May 13, 1932, No. 13866. [Class 78 (iv).] A counterweight 15 for preventing overturning is movable along an inclined guide 17 by a cable 12 secured to a sheave 11a in a bight of the hoisting cable 7, and arranged so that the equilibrium position of the counterweight under any load is determined by the equal tensions in the two reaches of the load rope and the tension, constant both in direction and magnitude, in the cable 12. The cable 12 may pass over a double pulley-block, and the hoisting cable over a multiple block; the guide sheave 13 for the cable 12 may be out of line with the slueing axis ; the winch 6 may be on the jib, as shown, or elsewhere. In operation, the weight 15 moves outwards to balance the load before the load is lifted from the ground.
