Abstract
423,147. Overhead travelling cranes. PETERSEN, R., 8, Forsterstrasse, Oliva, Danzig Free State. May 2, 1934, No. 13277. [Class 78 (iv)] In a hoisting and traversing apparatus the main cable 1 is attached at 3, 3 to the loadsupporting frame 4 and also passes under a pulley 6 at the top of the frame. The cable 1 passes also round fixed pulleys 2 and a winding drum 7 and is sufficiently long to allow a fair amount of sag. The pulleys 2 and 6 are large and of the same size. The hoisting cable 9; fixed at 13 and passing over a pulley 10, is so disposed as to lie substantially parallel to the cable 1 between the frame 4 and the supporting pulleys 2, the parts 10, 13 thus taking up some of the load which would be transmitted to the frame 4 were the traverse parts of the cable 9 horizontal. The pulleys 11 on the frame 4 are disposed apart sufficiently far to allow the parts of the cable 9 between them to be inclined to the vertical and to lessen longitudinal surging. The cable 9 may be fixed to the load 5, and then passes round pulleys co-axial with pulleys 2 to a pulley block which can be raised and lowered by a winch rope having a tension-limiting weight attached. Cables may also be added for controlling a grab. In each case any cable may be duplicated to lie symmetrically about the others.
