Overhead travellers and transporters.-A trolly a on a fixed runway or on the bridge of a travelling crane carries a depending frame b which can be rotated in upper and lower bearings. A beam f for carrying the load is suspended by ropes or chains from a cross-head c of the frame b. The beam f is raised or lowered by means of the ropes &c. g which may be wound on lifting-drums h on the cross-head c. The beam f may be supported from pulleys f<3> hung in bights of the ropes &c. g to prevent swinging of the load during slueing. Magnetic lifting-apparatus; slings.-The load, such as metal plates, rails, bars, &c. may be carried from the beam by magnets, hooks, or slings.
