To all whom it may concern: I
Be it knownthat I, IsAAc A. RYAN, a cit1- zen of the United Statesof America, res1ding at Ironton, in the county of Lawrence and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grappling Yokes for Handling and Conveying Wire Bales and the like, of which the following is a specification. V
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in grappling yokes especially designed for the handling and con veying of wire bales and the like for conveying the wire bale to a bath for treatment prior to the forming of the wire into 113.118, and is also capable for conveying rods or plates.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a grappling yoke preferably suspended from the chain of a crane wherein the yoke hooks or arms are pivotally supported upon a cross bar having keeper hooks manually releasable and adapted for cooperation with the arms for locking the same in bale or bar suspending position.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

A pair of grappling arms are pivotally supported between the spaced side bars 1, each grappling arnrbeing of angle formatlon and embodying leg portions 11 and 12, a grappling arm being associated witheach end of the cross head and being pivotally supported upon the pin 13 extending between the lugs 14 that are carried by the brackets 15 which are secured as at 16 to the lower flanges 2 of the side bars, the upper cam-shaped end 11 of the leg portion 11 of each grappling arm extending above the side bars 1 when the leg portion 11 is vertically positioned as shown in Fig. 1. r

7. In a grappling yoke, a cross head, grappling means carried by said head, a crane hook engaging member carried by the cross head and projecting upwardly therefrom, and means carried by the cross head below the aforesaid member adapted for laterally displacing the crane hook when lowered relative to the said member to prevent engagement of the hook and member when the hook is again raised.
