Abstract

1394823 Slings F NATTRASS 8 May 1972 [26 May 1971 29 July 1971 21 Jan 1972] 17216/71 35663/71 and 3013/72 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] A load encircling sling comprises a discontinuous length of material 1 and a continuous loop of material which are joined by means of two pairs of chain links 6, 7, one part 3 of the continuous loop engaging with the upper part of the load 2 while its other part 4 is engaged by a lift hook 5. On raising the load by means of the sling the link 7 is drawn towards the link 6 on movement of the loop material about the limbs of the chain links 6, 7, the part 4 of the loop lengthening and the part 3 being shortened and thus drawing tight about the upper part of the load 2. By means of this arrangement loosening of the sling is assisted when it is deposited after release of the lifting force. In a further embodiment the loop (3, 4) is connected to a bar (9) which spans a chain link (8) to which the lower sling part (1) is attached, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), while in a still further embodiment the loop (3, 4) is inserted through a loop formed in the lower sling part (1), Fig. 8 (not shown). The lower part of the sling may be formed as a multiloop sling, Figs. 9-11 (not shown), the loops of which pass upwardly about the corners of a load and are connected to continuous loops of material (21), Fig. 12 (not shown).
