In a hoist comprising a tubular mast 2, detachably mounted on the lift links 6, 7 of a tractor, and a tubular slewing jib 1, a hoisting cable 13 passes over a pulley 15, through the jib, the mast and a pipe 16, round a pulley 17 mounted on the tractor frame 18, to a chain 19 attached by one of its links to a hook 20 on the mast 2.
