Abstract

880,311. Equalizing load in multi-rope minehoisting gear. ANGLO AMERICAN CORPORATION OF SOUTH AFRICA Ltd. Nov. 6, 1959, No. 37737/59. Class 78 (2). Ropes 4, 4<SP>1</SP> connected to a common mine hoist conveyance (not shown) pass over respective sheaves 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, which are movable up and down by hydraulic rams 6, 6<SP>1</SP> in order to balance the tension in the ropes 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. The cylinders 7, 7<SP>1</SP> of the rams 6, 61 are connected by a conduit 14. Hydraulic pressure is maintained by a pump 17 driven by an electric motor 30 controlled by switches 31 actuated by the liquid level in a reservoir 15. Stops 24, 24<SP>1</SP> carried by one of rods 12 connecting each sheave axle 11 to the corresponding ram 6, are adapted to actuate switches 26, 27 (to energize a siren 29) when sheave travel exceeds a maximum. Movement of rods 12 also actuates (through a chain 20) a selsyn motor 23 so as to give an indication of rope length on a meter 25.
