Abstract

952,675. Level-luffing ships' derricks. C. BARTOLI. Dec. 6, 1961 [Dec. 6, 1960], No. 43743/61. Heading B8B. Level-luffing is achieved by passing both the hoisting rope 18, Fig. 1, and the topping lifts 23 of a derrick round pulleys 14 which are mounted so as to be vertically movable. As described the pulleys 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, 1411, Fig. 2, are mounted on the piston rod 13 of an hydraulic ram 12. The hoisting rope 18 passes from a winch 17 round pulleys 22, 14, 19 and 20 to a hook 21. The topping lifts 23, 23<SP>1</SP> pass from a bracket 24 round fixed pulleys 16, 16<SP>111</SP>, movable pulleys 14<SP>1</SP>, 1411 and fixed pulleys 16<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>11</SP> to an attachment 25 on the jib. Luffing is effected by the ram 12, and an electrically or hydraulically driven toothed member attached to the jib engages a fixed toothed bracket 7, Fig. 1, to slew the jib. To stow the jib the ropes 23, 23<SP>1</SP> are disconnected from the bracket 24 and the jib lowered, e.g. by a capstan, on to a support on the deck.
